Axle and Drivetrain Components: Power Transmission, The Signature of Engineering
MGM Casting has been producing high-quality solutions for the most critical points where movement begins and power is transmitted in the heavy industry, automotive, and agricultural machinery sectors since 1954. Axle and drivetrain components are fundamental components that determine the durability, safety, and efficiency of a vehicle or construction machine. In our fully integrated facilities located in Ankara, we manage every stage of these parts, from design and casting to precision machining and testing processes, with our 70-year-old sealed quality.
Our "From Casting to Final Product" philosophy, which forms the basis of our production, reflects our pursuit of perfection in all categories, including the powertrain group, as seen on our Product Overview page. Our designs, optimized by our Engineering & R&D unit, offer high fatigue resistance and dynamic load-carrying capacity even under the most demanding field conditions.

OEM Standards and Precision Manufacturing in Powertrain Systems
Axle components are inherently subjected to constantly varying loads and high torque. This necessitates zero margin of error, from the metallurgical structure of the material to machining tolerances. At MGM Casting, we operate with micron-level (±0.01 mm) precision in our Machining and CNC facilities to meet the technical specifications of our global OEM partners.
Why is MGM a leader in cast axle components?
The quality of an axle component is measured not only by the strength of the casting but also by the machining quality of the bearing housings and sealing surfaces. Our 75-unit CNC machine park allows us to machine even the most complex geometries of parts such as hubs and axles without error. Thanks to our Quality & Certifications discipline, every part produced undergoes dimensional verification with our 3D CMM devices.
Our Core Product Groups: Hub, Axle and Differential Solutions
Our axles and drivetrain category covers the critical components most needed by the Agriculture and Farm Machinery and Automotive and Heavy Commercial Vehicle sectors:
-
Hubs: Hubs, which provide the connection between the wheel and the axle and carry the bearing loads, are manufactured from high-strength ductile iron.
-
Axles (Knuckles): Located at the heart of the steering and suspension system, axles are cast using our expertise in ductile iron and cast iron solutions, making them extra resistant to impacts.
-
Differential Housings and Casings: These large-volume parts, which protect and support gear sets, are machined in a single operation thanks to our post-casting machinery and technical capacity advantages.
-
Planetary Carriers: The carrier bodies of planetary systems, which provide torque increase in power transmission, are manufactured with gear housings of micron precision.
Advanced Materials Technology: The Strength of GGG 50/60 Ductile Iron
Material selection in drivetrain components directly determines the lifespan of the part. At MGM Casting, we predominantly use ductile iron (Spheroidal Cast Iron) in our axle components. Our EN-GJS-500-7 (GGG 50) and EN-GJS-600-3 (GGG 60) grade materials combine the toughness of steel with the manufacturing flexibility of cast iron.
-
Fatigue Resistance: For axle shafts and housings operating under continuous torque, the fatigue limit of the material is simulated in our R&D center.
-
Heat Treatment Optimization: We apply modern heat treatment processes in-house to improve the surface hardness and internal structure of parts.
-
Lightweighting: Our engineering and R&D team optimizes casting design to minimize the overall weight of parts without compromising strength, resulting in improved fuel efficiency in the final vehicle.
Data-Driven Questions in Axle Manufacturing
1- How can casting defects in axle parts be prevented?
MGM Casting analyzes the flow and setting behavior of the metal inside the mold using pre-casting simulation software. This allows structural defects such as shrinkage or voids to be prevented at the design stage.
2. Why is machining tolerance critical in hub production?
Hubs support the wheel bearings. Exceeding the ±0.01 mm tolerance range can lead to premature bearing heating, noise, and ultimately axle lockup. MGM's Machine Park with 75 machines completely eliminates this risk.
3. What tests do heavy vehicle axle components undergo?
Samples from each production batch undergo spectral analysis (chemical composition), microscopic examination (nodularity control), hardness measurement, and ultrasonic defect detection tests. Details of these processes are available on our Quality & Certifications page.
